This is David Sumner, one of Lucilla’s experienced Actors! David also does a lot of backstage work.

In the 1999 Lucilla Festival, David Sumner, a long-standing member of Lucilla, was awarded the Cecil C. Abbotson Cup for the Best Character David SumnerActor for his performance as “Norman” in the Lucilla entry of “Getting Along” by Charles Mander

David has had a keen interest in Amateur theatre for most of his life. He attended Merchant Taylors’ School in Crosby, where he was the first pupil to be awarded a Merchant Taylors’ Company Prize for Acting for his portrayal of ‘The Miser’ in Moliere’s play of the same name. He had already joined the Lucilla at the age of fifteen years. After completing his National Service, he became a professional actor for a short time.

He has been a member of Lucilla D.S. since 1952, apart from a short break and has played a wide variety of different roles over the years, on a number of occasions being short-listed by Adjudicators for an individual award.

At last David achieved a long-term ambition - to win an individual award at this festival.
